How to create and use segments

Don't know which version of MailerLite you're using? Click here to find out!

Segmentation is a great way to group subscribers to send them personal, targeted messages. In MailerLite, segments are saved filters. They're dynamic and automatically update when your list grows.

You can build filter conditions based on groups, fields, signup date, time zone, campaigns, automation workflows, and time inactive.

To create a new segment, go to the Subscribers tab. You can add segments in 2 different ways.

  1. Use our filter system to create different conditions and then press Save as segment. Give your new segment a name and click Create.

  2. Navigate to Segments and click Create segment. Give it a name and click Create. Then use the filter system to create conditions that you want your subscribers to meet.

If you click on the Segments tab, you'll see an overview of all of the segments. In this screen you can view, rename and delete your segments. When you have more segments, you'll be able to sort them by Segment name, Date created, Subscribers, Open rate and Click rate.

Note: Deleting the segment will not delete the subscribers from your account.

When you create a new campaign, you can use your segments to target specific subscribers. In case you haven't created any segments yet, you won't see this option in the campaign creation step Recipients.

Meet segments: a great way to group subscribers to send them personal, targeted messages. In this video, you'll learn how to use segments.

In MailerLite, segments are saved filters. They're dynamic and automatically update when your list grows.

To see your segments, go to Subscribers and then click on the tab Segments. Now you can search and filter people, for example:

  • Email contains MailerLite

  • Name contains Marcin

  • Group belongs to Team

  • Time inactive equals 400 days

  • Location is [City/Country]

You can build filter conditions based on groups, fields, segments, signup date, time zone, campaigns, automation workflows and time inactive.

Now when you click Save as segment, your new filtered group of people will be saved when you click Create. From then onwards, each new subscriber that matches the filter conditions will automatically be added to your segment.

When you create a new campaign, you can use your segments to target specific subscribers. In case you haven't created any segments yet, you won't see this option in the campaign creation step Recipients.
